Wayfaring MD: Missionary Physician

Medicine isn't all doom and gloom, guts and gore. When you put random people together in situations that are often awkward, hilarity is bound to ensue.

I like to highlight the hilarious in medicine as I write about patients, medical school, residency, medical missions, and whatever else strikes my fancy. Oh yeah, and I like to use GIFs!

HIPAA is for reals, folks. All of my "patient stories" have been changed to protect patient privacy. I will change any or all identifiers, including age, location, race/ethnicity, sex, medical history, and quotes.

Why a pic of an empty chair?
To mark the first dropout of Class of 2012, 4 weeks into Phase A.
A girl in my small group, who has looked very unhappy since the very beginning, didn’t show up for group on Wednesday. We called and she didn’t answer. Finally she responded in an e-mail that she felt that nursing school was more her speed. What’s really sad is that A) it took her 2 years to get into medical school to figure this out, and B) I have friends on the wait list that could have had her spot. But I’m glad she figured it out this early in the game instead of getting 2 years in.
It was sad that we lost someone this early, but we’re glad she’s not sticking with something that doesn’t make her happy.
